Second Base Tier

Check out the Original 2nd Base Rankings along with some analysis here. There’s been a few changes with the White Sox’s Chris Getz coming in at 22 and the Washington Nationals’ Anderson Hernandez looking at the number 27 spot.

Blake Dewitt is in limbo, as I patiently await the Los Angeles Dodgers inking Orlando Hudson.

Chase Utley Follow the news on Utley, it’s the difference between #1 and #3
Ian Kinsler 518 AB yielded 18HR and 28 SB. If he can stay healthy in that Rangers line-up, he’s #1
Dustin Pedroia I still can’t get fully on the Pedroia band-wagon. A decline in HR and SB wouldn’t be surprising
Brian Roberts 35-40 SB without sacrificing average. Should benefit from a maturing O’s line-up batting behind him
Alexi Ramirez The most risky pick in the bunch. Strikes out way too much, and doesn’t walk enough but 21 HR in 480AB
Robbie Cano Rating him this high means I think he slides into the #2 hole and puts up a .320 AVG
Brandon Phillips 20/20 is a given, but the average is volatile.
Dan Uggla Just won his arbitration case, the 170Ks isn’t pretty but 30HR from a 2B is nice
Kelly Johnson Putting Johnson here means career highs across the board. Wouldn’t be surprised if he steals 20.
Jose Lopez Lopez was a nice surprise last year, but can he repeat? AVG, RBI, R – NO. HR could approach 20 this year though
Howie Kendrick Kendrick cant stay healthy and will at least start at the back of the Angel’s line-up. .320 AVG is attainable.
Alexi Casilla 20 SB, and 12 HR seems about right. The Twins could be interesting this year
Rickie Weeks Aren’t prospects supposed to get better with time? He’s entering his prime and look for the best year yet
Mark DeRosa Everyone’s favourite sleeper. An .857 OPS percentage will do that
Felipe Lopez My favourite sleeper: Lots of Runs, and Lots of steals. At this point, he’s your best bet.
Placido Polanco 300 AVG and a bunch of Runs. Health and Age are starting to become a concern. Tigers should be better this year
Mike Fontenot Fontenot should get the gig over Miles, but I wouldn’t expect more than 550 PA. .395 OBP = RUN opportunities.
Kaz Matsui Speed, and Runs. With Tejada’s presumed absence his run totals could drop. Wont hurt you.
Orlando Hudson Lets see where he lands first. Could steal Jose Lopez’s place if all goes well
Mike Aviles Aviles is more of a .280 hitter than a .305 hitter. At least he’s not Tony Pena. Jr.
Freddy Sanchez Value in the average, and could be useful on a young Pirates squad
Chris Getz He’s been compared to Dustin Pedroia, but I dont see it.. Yet. Solid White Sox line-up.
Asdrubal Cabrera Cabrera, along with the entire Indians infield, could be a steal this year
Mark Ellis He does what he does, and he does it well
Aaron Hill His head hurts, but he’ll bat in the top half of a mediocre Jays line-up
Aki Iwamura Bats atop a solid Rays line-up. Will score runs, but not much else
Anderson Hernandez I’m starting to fall in love with the Nationals line-up. Hernandez may bat 8th, but that line-up looks solid
Blake DeWitt He’s currently listed as the two-bagger for the Dodgers, but Hudson is about to steal that spot
Luis Castillo Not sure whats going on with the Mets second base gig yet. Murphy would be interesting.
Clint Barmes Has the job as of now, and if he plays he’ll have some value
Emmanuel Burriss Whoever nabs the Giants gig will have the green light.
Alberto Collaspo The Royals are having a coming out party and Collaspo’s invited
Aaron Miles A smidgen worse than Fontenot if he ends up with the job.
Jeff Baker Maybe? Check your leagues settings for games played – Stewart may have value here.
Daniel Murphy? He’s always had issues in the infield. He played some second in the AFL…wasn’t pretty. Has a nice bat though.
Eugenio Velez Speed, Burriss, and Frandsen.
Brandon Harris Is your league this deep? He could put up a 50RBI/50Run season?
Kevin Frandsen Boring.
Ronnie Belliard Doesn’t look like he’ll be playing any first base or outfield this year
Ronny Cedeno
Adam Kennedy
Ray Durham
Mark Grudzielanek
Chin-Lung Hu
