First Base Tier
Lots of risk and reward here. Obviously your top First-Baseman will contribute across the board, but pay attention to the second guy you snag.
After the first couple of tiers, you really have to decide whether or not you want Raw Power, a Great Eye, Or a Great Average.
Original Rankings and Write-Ups Here
Albert Pujols | Looking Pujols-ish for 2009. Best hitter out there
Mark Teixeira | Last years ridiculous stats, especially counting stats, will improve
Ryan Howard | Batting average will never dip that low again. K’s still there
Miguel Cabrera | Let there be rock – Detroit’s going to start fast. Career Year?
Lance Berkman | Slowly and surely getting older, expect another stellar year.
Prince Fielder | Something was off last year, should return to greatness.
Justin Morneau | Either over-valued or under-valued. MVP? HR Derby Champ?
Adrian Gonzalez | Love him this year. Team’s not great, but 40 HR?
Kevin Youkilis | Solid across the board, if you don’t need crazy-power from 1B
Joey Votto | Young and talented. Sophomore Slump?
Carlos Pena | Only hit .250 but has BUCKETS of power
Derrek Lee | Getting close to the edge. 1 Season left under his belt?
Carlos Delgado | At the edge, but still has ridiculous raw power
Chris Davis | Everyones favourite sleeper, Play him at 3B
Aubrey Huff | Career year last year, expect similar numbers.
Garrett Atkins | Up-and-Down Year. Should be solid this year.
James Loney | Power will show up sooner rather than later.
Conor Jackson | Everything but power, same class as Loney
Casey Kotchman | Should produce across the board – 20HR?
Ryan Garko | If he plays expect a bounce-back. Risky, Risky Pick.
Adam LaRoche | More raw power, the Pirates will be fun to watch.
Jorge Cantu | Strikes out a lot, not sure where to value him as a 1B.
Pablo Sandoval | I have no clue where to value these guys away from their natural positions
Carlos Guillen | Guillen falls into the same class – if you draft them, play them at 3B,2B, or SS
Billy Butler | There will be some ups and downs, but he’s a professional hitter.
Jason Giambi | The return of the stache. Expect a welcome-home party for Giambi.
Nick Swisher | Swisher’s interesting – Great OBP, needs playing time.
Mike Jacobs | Lots of competition in KC. He’s got power though.
Todd Helton | Move him on up if you think he can stay healthy – I dont
Paul Konerko | Konerko lost something last year, and he’s too old to find it.
Daric Barton | Barton needs 1 more year, just one.
Nick Johnson | I’m high on Johnson, and he’s worth drafting but 80 G seems like a stretch
Hank Blalock | Play him at 3B. Very nice sleeper here. Still has 30HR power.
Casey Blake | Ditto. Maybe 20HR – Not Sexy But Gets it done.
Gaby Sanchez | Not sure what to expect from the Kid.
Lyle Overbay | God, I Hate Lyle Overbay.
When I finish up, I’ll post the Spreadsheet and PDF on the frontpage.
