Eric Arnett: 2009 Bowman Draft Picks and Prospects
BDPP77, Eric Arnett of the Milwaukee Brewers, Bowman Chrome Autograph
Buy or Sell: Tentative Buy
Projected Value: High/Low
Selected late in the first round, Eric Arnett’s an interesting prospect that you should consider keeping an eye on. Once again, there’s absolutely no reason that he should be leading the Autograph list, but the kid’s got the make-up to pay dividends.
Arnett stands 6′6″ and carries 230 pretty easily. It’ll be interesting to see his opening price on eBay because he’s got the tools that make the prospectors get a bit of a stiffy: He slipped further than he should’ve in the draft and he’s got the potential to throw hard.
With his size and his mid-90’s heat, Arnett’s got a shot at shooting through the minors. His fastball, if he can locate it, will give him some leeway in developing his secondary offerings.
Solid coaching will go a long way in the development of Arnett. His mechanics need tightening up, although he performed as expected in his first Pro Season. Arnett averaged just over a strike-out per inning, but his penchant for getting sloppy and walking batters will need cleaning up.
Arnett really put things together in his final season at Indiana and he really seems to take well to coaching.
Definitely some upside here, and there’ll be a large window to dump his stuff if he loses command completely. He’ll always be a 6′5″ – 6′6″ kid that can throw hard, so there’ll always be prospectors willing to take a chance.
If his early TriStar sales are any indicator, his value seems about right.
Here’s the thing: With a full off-season to rest up after one hella rollercoaster ride, Arnett could come out guns blazing. There’s profits to be made if that happens, if you didn’t feel like waiting it out another year.
